Big has a best friend at school now. His name is Kenneth and they are obsessed with each other. He likes some of the other kids in his class OK but Kenneth...that's his soul mate. They like to go to the same centers, sit by each other at lunch, and look for bugs together on the playground. And Kenneth wears glasses. Big blue glasses that are held on his two-year-old boy face with a strap that that wraps around his head. They look a lot like goggles. And Big has goggles. They came in a tool set his grandmother gave him. So naturally because they do everything together Big figured what better way to show his support for his visually impaired buddy then to wear his goggles to school. So that's exactly what he did last week. And apparently he kept them on all day except when taking a nap!
This is what I love about Big. He is thoughtful in grown up way. He marches to the beat of his own drum, proud to be the kid with the goggles, not fazed by the looks he was getting as we marched into his class. Proud to show his buddy that he has his back. And committed, the goggles didn't fit great and actually probably made it harder for him to see. But he stuck to it, even putting them back on after nap. I also love the child logic of glasses and goggles being basically the same thing and Kenneth is my friend and he wears glasses so wouldn't it be cool if we both did.
